The Quintessential Quintuplets

WHAT!? There are five of them!? The Quintessential Quintuplets is the very
definition of a harem on steroids, and somehow the author got away with it
(almost). First, I’ll give you a quick rundown of the plot. Uesugi Fuutaro
is a sophomore in high school. He comes from a poor family, so to pay off
his father’s debts, he treats his studies as his top priority. When the Nakano
sisters transfer to his school, he becomes their tutor at their father’s request.
That’s how I can summarize it without giving away any spoilers. And now,
the characters. I’ve already described Fuutaro. He’s just a nerd. The quintuplets are:
Itsuki (the youngest, a glutton), Yotsuba (the second youngest, energetic),
Miku (the “best girl,” quiet), Nino (the second oldest, tsundere), and
Ichika (the oldest, big sister vibe). I get the concept. Five girls
trying to win over the same guy. Everyone will find their favorite and root
for her. But for this idea to work, the story would have to go on forever.
In the end, the series wrapped up in 14 volumes and two seasons, and as is
often the case with harem stories, not everyone likes the ending. I don’t like
the ending for a very simple reason: my favorite, Miku, didn’t win (oops, spoiler).
I can give the author credit for ending the story as painlessly as possible.
